Film Textural Properties

Film texture analysis is essential for assessing the mechanical integrity, handling characteristics, and functional performance of films used in applications such as food packaging, pharmaceuticals, wound care, personal care products, and edible or biodegradable materials. These properties influence not only processing and consumer experience but also product protection and shelf stability.

At our rheology lab, we utilize texture analyzers to measure film mechanical properties under standardized testing conditions. We offer both standard and customized test protocols tailored to the specific needs of different film types. Depending on the film’s thickness, elasticity, and intended application, we employ a variety of configurations—including flat or ball probes paired with a film extensibility rig—to ensure accurate, relevant, and reproducible measurements.

Turnaround time: 3 – 7 days

Key parameters include:

  • Burst Strength – The maximum force required to rupture the film under increasing pressure or load. This reflects the film’s overall toughness and resistance to sudden mechanical failure.
  • Elongation at Break – The extent to which a film can stretch before breaking, expressed as a percentage of its original length. This is a critical indicator of flexibility and ductility.
  • Resilience – The ability of the film to absorb energy during deformation and release it upon recovery. This reflects how well a film can withstand repeated stresses without permanent damage.
  • Puncture Resistance – The force required to penetrate the film using a standardized probe. This parameter is particularly important for evaluating protective performance against sharp or concentrated forces.
